Monitor Tech /EKG Tech - Central Monitoring Unit PRN:

Minimum experience Requirements:
1 year experience in health care environment involving direct patient care or relevant training program.
Minimum Licensure / Certification Requirements:
BLS certification.
Successful completion of Telemetry test within 30 days of hire Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT)via Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) www.

org or National Certified ECG Technician (NCET) via National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) www.

com (or within 6 months of hire date.
Minimum Skill Requirements:
Perform resting ECG, ambulatory ECG monitoring and telemetry monitoring.
JOB DUTIES /
Responsibilities:
Sets up telemetry monitor for new admission.
Place patients name, medical record number (MRN) and room number on the screen.
Enter the patient''s name, medical record number (MRN) and tele box number into the Telemetry Log Book.
Interpret the six second rhythm strip for rate, P waves, PR interval, QRS duration, T waves and length of OT interval and for any dysrhythmias.
Rhythm strips should be obtained at admission, discharge, every eight hours and with any rhythm change or significant event.
Cleans and disinfects monitor boxes after each patient use.
Verifies the patients are on the correct monitor.
Reports any concerns to proper personnel.
Obtain accurate patient history, indications for ECG/Holter.
Completes all work in a timely manner.
Proficient knowledge and use of EMR (electronic medical records).
Accurately uses cardiology information system which includes but not limited to down loading and editing of ECG for physician interpretation.
Process of ECG and Ambulatory monitors in a timely manner for physician access.
Assures that alarms are activated with appropriate setting and are sufficiently audible with respect to competing noise within the unit.
Inventory appropriate equipment and notifies supervisor/manager of any discrepancies.
Maintain procedure room readiness, with supplies and neatness, following infection control standards.
Adapts communication based on age specific needs.
