Qualifications:
UME Preparatory Academy is a Texas public school.
Therefore, teachers must meet the minimum qualifications for teaching in a public school as established by state and federal law.
Specifically, they must:
? Hold at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, ? Be highly qualified, as defined by No Child Left Behind and relevant state law, in the subject area and level assigned, and ? Have successfully completed a teaching internship or the equivalent.
In addition, they may be required to hold state certification or obtain such certification as a condition for employment.
This specifically applies to ESL, Bilingual, and Special Education teachers.
All English teachers are required to be ESL certified or willing to pursue process during first 60 days of school year.
Responsibility and Authority:
Each teacher is directly responsible to the Principal or his or her designee and in turn may be assigned to supervise not only students but also student teachers, aides, and volunteers.

Broadly conceived, however, their job duties can be described by six major goals:

Teachers have a tremendous influence over their students simply by living before them on a daily basis.
Therefore, each teacher at UME Preparatory Academy will model consistently attitudes, perspectives, and behaviors that promote and support the academy's values and mission.

Instructional Goal:
High-quality instruction in specific disciplines is one of the core purposes for the academy's existence.
Therefore, each teacher will strive to help his or her students achieve the learning goals and objectives, as identified in the curriculum guides or approved course syllabi, in the most effective and efficient manner possible.
3.
School Climate Goal:
High-quality instruction takes place best in an orderly but relaxed and supportive environment.
Therefore, in order to facilitate the achievement of instructional goals and objectives, to maintain a quality learning environment, and to contribute to overall school effectiveness, each teacher will adhere to all school policy, applicable laws, and professional ethics; promote, uphold, and enforce all student conduct standards and expectations; and cultivate positive and supportive relationships with students, parents, and fellow staff members while fulfilling his or her duties.

Informational Goal:
Good communication is critical for teaching effectively and for developing a productive teacher-administrator relationship and teacher-parent partnership.
Therefore, each teacher will advise the administration regarding the placement, progress, or special needs of individual students and collaborate and confer appropriately with parents while striving to manage student information in accordance with written policy and all applicable laws.

Institutional Improvement Goal:
UME Prep is committed to continual improvement with the goal of developing an exemplary staff and effectively serving our students.
Therefore, in order to contribute to the on-going progress of the school, each teacher will contribute, as directed by the administration, to on-going school improvement.

Professional Growth Goal:
We assume that every teacher can become more skillful in fulfilling their exemplary and other vocational responsibilities.
Therefore, each teacher will engage in ongoing professional growth and training, as directed by administration or required by law.
Safety Duties and Responsibilities Every employee of the School has an obligation to know our safety rules and procedures; to teach what they know to others; to recognize unsafe actions and situations; to warn others of unsafe situations; to react to emergency situations and to report hazardous or unsafe practices to those in a position to correct them.
